I just got Vivid Memories, a Kickstarter game about connecting memories and weaving a tapestry of beautiful moments, and I can't wait to unbox it and share my take on it!
There's a lot to like about this game: the quality, the graphic design, the mechanics, gameplay, and theme. What I like the most is how it reminds me of a lot of other games that I really enjoy: Calico, Sagrada, and more. 2-4 players can enjoy this game in under and hour, enjoying the unique drafting quality of acquiring memories and activating special abilities in their individual player tableaus. ROGUE ANGELS is designed by Emil Larsen. I got to sit down and play the game with him and that's what this video covers: my review of our two-player game.
Rogue Angels is a co-op sci-fi legacy game driven by character choices and a strong narrative with multiple paths, tactical combat with fluent turns and action management with asymmetric abilities. Set in the Burning Suns universe, you get the opportunity to become a hero and help save the galaxy through impactful choices for your characters and their legacies. It plays 1-4 and takes between 90-120 minutes per mission. When I talked with Emil, he likened it to Mass Effect, but a board game. I'd second that comparison! The complexity of the game is medium strategy, below Imperial Assault, Myth, and Gloomhaven. And the mechanics include AI driven enemies, Asymmetric characters, Campaign and storytelling, Card and dice combat, Character personalities and traits, Cooldown for cards and abilities, Individual difficulty setting, Legacy elements and choices, Variable player powers, Unique damage and recover system, and Upgradable cards.
